Waiting for the Magnolia Blooms
Another day. Wake up, hurry off to work, come back, and do it all again.
Surely I don’t have high-functioning depression... but maybe I do?
Life just doesn’t have the same taste it once had.
Ring ring.
"Hello?"
No way—my heart sinks to my stomach.
He just found out that his good friends were hit at a bus stop by a drunk driver—on their way to get groceries. The car veered off the road and struck both his friends and his wife.
They were good people.
Why them?
There has to be more to life.
A friend once told me she enjoys taking walks in nature—that it helps her feel present, that she sees the beauty of creation.
It can’t hurt to try.
I stumble upon some leaves—yellow veining, glossy green.
Something about them looks like it’s getting ready to bloom.
What are these flowers called?
Magnolias.
The next morning, I jumped out of bed. I couldn’t wait to see if they had bloomed any further.
These flowers—they give me hope.
A quiet, blooming kind of hope.
Waiting for the Magnolia Blooms.
